Embark on a once-in-a-lifetime journey into the breathtaking landscapes of Madagascar with Beyond Limits 9. This extraordinary trek spans 11 days, immersing you in the untamed wilderness of the Makay Massif and the rich culture of its surrounding communities.
You'll explore the breathtaking Makay Massif, a remote and rugged region full of stunning canyons, verdant forests, and unique wildlife. This unique adventure includes 5 days of trekking across diverse terrains, with daily hikes ranging from 4 to 8 hours, offering the chance to witness Madagascar’s rich biodiversity, from lemurs to endemic reptiles. Along the way, you’ll connect with local Malagasy families whose children are benefiting from the educational support funded by this trek, making it a journey of both physical challenge and meaningful contribution. You’ll also be traversing the majestic Avenue of the Baobabs, swimming in natural pools, and immersing yourself in Malagasy culture.
With only 20 spots available, this trek offers an unparalleled opportunity to explore the island’s natural wonders while making a real impact on the lives of children in need of education. We share a powerful vision: to reintegrate these children into the education system and provide the ongoing support they need to thrive. Join us as we champion towards this cause together to raise awareness and funds of S$50,000 or more, create lasting change in the lives of these children, empowering them to pursue their dreams and rewrite their stories through education.
A Glimpse into Their Lives: The Reality of Child Labor in Madagascar
Meet Angela, Kevin, and Joeline—three resilient children whose dreams shine brightly despite the harsh realities they face. The organization we are supporting through awareness and funds raised in BL9 is dedicated to helping children like them. To gain insight into their daily lives and aspirations, we reached out to interview these inspiring young individuals. Angela, Kevin, and Joeline live in Majunga (also known as Mahajanga), a vibrant coastal city in northwestern Madagascar. Majunga is known for its warm climate, bustling markets, and beautiful seaside views along the Mozambique Channel. The town is rich in cultural diversity, with influences from Arab, Indian, and Malagasy communities. It’s also famous for landmarks such as the Baobab Tree in the city center, a symbol of its history and natural beauty.
-
Angela, at just 10 years old, has been working in a brick factory since she was four. Living with her parents, she aspires to become a doctor. She longs for the chance to learn to read and write, and her greatest wish is for her parents to find a better livelihood, like opening a small shop, so they can escape the grueling factory work.
-
Similarly, 9-year-old Kevine dreams of soaring through the skies as a pilot. He lives with his mother in Ambohimandroso, separated from his father. Like Angela, he yearns for the opportunity to attend school and wishes his mother could leave the brick factory to become a farmer, where they could thrive with a cow and a more sustainable life.
-
Joeline, also 10, shares a similar story. She has worked in the same factory since she was four and dreams of opening her own shop one day. Living with her mother, she wishes for a better future, hoping for a laying hen and a cow to help them leave the harsh realities of factory labor behind, and to eventually become a doctor.
Each day, their routines are filled with hard work: waking up early, fetching water, cooking meals, and laboring in the factory until late afternoon. Despite their circumstances, their dreams reflect a deep desire for education and a brighter future. Through our efforts, we aim to support the starting up of the Mamiratra ho an’ny Ankizy Association—Shine for the Children’s Association—so that children like Angela, Kevine, and Joeline can find the hope and opportunity they deserve.
More about the Mamiratra ho an’ny Ankizy Association —Shine for the Children’s Association
In August 2024, our founders, Scott and Kavita, learned about the inspiring vision of one of their Malagasy guides to start the Mamiratra ho an’ny Ankizy Association, and they contributed SGD 1,600 to his cause, enabling 63 children to start school in September 2025—a significant step toward a brighter future. This initiative became the driving force behind the creation of BL9.
The Mamiratra ho an’ny Ankizy Association is dedicated to protecting and uplifting vulnerable children, particularly those trapped in forced labor, such as brick-making, due to their families' economic hardship. These children are denied access to education, perpetuating a cycle of poverty. Inspired by the blessings he received in his own youth, the guide behind this initiative is committed to creating pathways to education, health, and self-reliance for these children.
The association focuses on reintegrating children into the education system by providing essential school supplies, covering tuition fees, and ensuring uninterrupted learning. Beyond education, Mamiratra ho an’ny Ankizy also addresses the children's nutritional needs by setting up canteens that offer balanced meals, understanding that proper nutrition is essential for growth and development. Additionally, the association has helped cover medical expenses, such as surgeries for children with health issues like damaged kidneys or adenoids.
In line with their holistic approach, Mamiratra ho an’ny Ankizy empowers families economically by promoting income-generating activities, reducing their dependence on child labor and tackling the root causes of exploitation.
This vital work relies on the generosity of supporters like you. Every contribution goes directly to supporting the children and families in need. By joining BL9 or making a donation, you can help create a brighter future for these children, offering them the chance to dream, learn, and thrive. Your support can change lives, helping to break the cycle of poverty and create lasting opportunities for growth.

As the sun rises on your final day in Madagascar, the BE Malagasy team will bid us a fond farewell as we embark on our journey back to Singapore. They will be there to see us off at the airport, ensuring a seamless transition as we get ready to embark on our flight!
Take a moment to explore the remarkable experiences shared by previous Beyond Limits participants in their journeys. These stories provide a vivid glimpse into the transformative experiences awaiting you when you choose to push your limits alongside us.
We had Zoe, a cancer survivor, join us for Beyond Limits 4, a 50km trek across an icy lake at temperatures plunging below -20 degrees celsius to raise funds for the Singapore Cancer Society. We had Jiaying, who flew to frosty Taiga with us for BL6, looking to support our cause for young cancer patients, but left with a heart full of inspiration, appreciation, and a deeper, loving connection with her mother who she was also caring for, before her succumbing to cancer.
We had Irisha, an inspirational breast cancer survivor who showed us what true strength and tenacity looks like in BL7. And here’s also a visual ‘journal’ of what our participants went through for BL7, because pictures can speak to you about a journey in ways that words cannot.
Are you a good fit for this charity expedition?
This is not an easy expedition, and it is not for everyone. We greatly prioritize the makeup of the team, and thus go through a strictly selective process to ensure we honor the meaning of why we do the expedition in the first place. So, before you say yes to this edition of Beyond Limits, read on to find out if this expedition is for you.
-
Even though we have a well-planned itinerary, changes will be made during the trip itself due to unexpected circumstances.
So, if you're not ready to embrace change, then maybe Netflix is a better option than this expedition. If you're open to embracing the unknown, then we think you'll fit right in.
-
No drama queens, no turning against other team members!
Simply put, don’t be ‘toxic’, if we could be Gen-Z with you.
Every team member’s well-being is priority. Period. We work hand-in-hand to ensure we complete the expedition together. We're all about teamwork and supporting one another because we want everyone to have an awesome time, so we need people who are kind, caring, and drama-free. Leave the diva attitude at home, and let's focus on having a positive and fun experience together!
-
There may be instances where cars break down, or weather conditions take a turn for the worse. Regardless, the country’s locals know the land like the back of their hand, and have kept our team safe throughout the years. We love and respect the people of the land we visit, and we trust them to show us the ropes.
If you can't trust the locals, then maybe you should stay home and watch a travel show instead! But, if you're down to learn from and trust the people who know the land best, then you'll feel right at home.
-
For this expedition, we will appoint team leaders within the group to lead each small ‘pod’ (3-4 members each).
Your team leader is there to ensure the well-being of you and your respective team members, working hand in hand with our overall-in-charge, Scott, to ensure everyone’s safety and the expedition runs smoothly. So, if you're the type of person who likes to go rogue, then this might not be the adventure for you.
So, if you're ready to step out of your comfort zone and create some amazing memories, then come join us! Bring your sense of humor, your willingness to learn, and your positive energy, and let's make a difference together.

Upon committing to sign up by placing a deposit, we expect each participant to exemplify responsibility and accountability within the team. This entails active participation in fundraising efforts, spreading awareness of the campaign, and a firm commitment not to withdraw. It's imperative to understand that this is a charity expedition, not just a leisurely holiday trip, so please review our Terms and Conditions for comprehensive guidelines before signing up.
It's worth noting that extensive planning, marketing, logistical arrangements, including fund disbursements in both Singapore and Madagascar, are meticulously executed for every "Beyond Limits" expedition. Participants should be aware that withdrawal is only considered in extraordinary circumstances, primarily health-related issues or urgent family matters. In such cases, individuals are encouraged to utilize their own travel insurance, and we are more than willing to provide the necessary travel memo to support any claims.
Your commitment and dedication are crucial to the success of our charitable endeavors, and we appreciate your understanding of these guidelines.
-
All proceeds will be donated to the Mamiratra ho an’ny Ankizy Association, created by one of our very own Malagasy guides to protect and uplift vulnerable children in Madagascar who are forced into labor, particularly in brick-making. Stay excited as we welcome you into this exceptional community of like-minded expeditioners and friends.
-

We’ve had charity expeditioners over 60 years old. Our mantra is, “Leave no man behind.”
Participants with specific medical conditions must seek a professional doctor’s clearance for the trip.
